Concrete Removal & Underground Drainage Rerouting in Spencer, MA

The customer had an old concrete pad in the backyard that had seen better days — cracked, heaving, and sitting in a spot that was trapping water against the property. After heavy rain, the area would flood and stay wet for days. The concrete wasn't draining; it was making things worse.

The job started with full concrete removal. We broke up the pad and hauled all the material off-site. With the concrete gone, we could properly excavate the area and address the underlying drainage issue that had been building up underneath.

Once the site was open, we dug the existing gutter drainage pipes deeper underground so they sat well below grade rather than sitting shallow where they caused pooling. Instead of letting the water discharge into the center of the yard, we rerouted the lines to disperse at the edges — away from the usable area.

The area was then finish-graded and close to 30 yards of fresh loam was brought in and spread across the entire side yard — essentially regrading the whole area from scratch. The result is a clean, level yard with proper slope away from the house and no more standing water after rain.
